I’d been itching for this shoot since Brianna (the model) contacted via email several months prior. She wanted a portrait of herself in her Native American attire alongside a real wolf. She sent me photos of the location: The Wolf Mountain Sanctuary, which was home to several wolves we could work with.

The Wolf Mountain Sanctuary (www.wolfmountain.com) is a short trip down an unpaved road off the 18 highway in Lucerne Valley, California. It was founded in 1976 by Native American, Tonya Littlewolf who is dedicated and devoted to the rescue of wolves in the wild and in captivity.

Although it was one of my more challenging shoots, everything fell into place. The biggest challenge was getting our wolf model, Wayland to cooperate as he was more interested in exploring the desert than sitting still to get his picture made.

Sunday’s shoot was long in the making but the results were well worth it. Luckily Cindy, Lucy and Rosie kept the mood light and the energy fun. Here’s a little behind the scenes:

From Improv Everywhere over 200 people freeze in place for five minutes in Grand Central Station.

MTV had a huge impact on me. Although I was a huge fan of music, More than the music, it was the visual styles of these videos that drew me in. Some were amazing, some were horrible and some, I couldn’t get enough of. David Fincher happened to direct a lot of the ones I couldn’t get enough of. Highly stylized, polished lighting, brilliant use of shadow & contrast, beautiful cinematography… his videos were sexy. it was no accident that he became a successful film director (Zodiac, Se7en, Fight Club, Panic Room, The Game, Aliens 3).

I’ve put together my favorite of his music videos. I was neither a Madonna, George Michael, or even Jackson fan, but I’d sit through these wide-eyed every time they showed:
